This is a great case. This is the second one i have ordered (just like the yellow accent). Very rugged. You can rest easy handling your investment as long as it’s in this thing. I have dropped mine onto asphalt too many times to count, and no problems with the phone at all. I must admit, when I first got the iphone into the case, I noticed that the screen protector adheres to the face of the iphone giving it an oily appearance. This is the most common complaint about this particular case, but I have found the fix for this. Baby powder. I know this sounds crazy, but it works flawlessly. There is a really good video on youtube on how to apply it. This completely fixes the problem. Because of this little fix, I now give this product 5 stars. Contrary to some reportings, this case IS NOT waterproof. However, It does a darn good job protecting it from splashes, light rain, dust, etc. If you are looking for extreme protection, look no further.

As a person who purchased another case for my iPhone that eventually fell apart and contributed to my cracked screen iPhone, I decided not to take another chance with how I protect my iPhone.
My coworkers thought the black OtterBox Defender Semi-Rugged Case for iPhone 3G(S) was tacky and big. Well I don’t care. Luckily I had insurance to cover the cost of the phone the first time around, but the new iPhone 3GS will cost more to replace if it gets damaged.
I was delighted at having this case in white. It’s more visually pleasing than the black and pairs well with my white iPhone. It has caught many people’s attention and they inquire about the case. To eliminate the echo sometimes heard when using this case, the filter that covers the speakers was eliminated by Otterbox. Excellent decision. No echo now. There is a little ring around the holes to cushion the bottom too.
The case also sits better in the holster with the ratchet clip. The bulk added by this case actually makes holding the phone with your shoulder to talk comfortable. The bulk added actually makes the phone about the same width and height and of other case that went defunct.
If you want to protect your iPhone, this case is the way to go.

If you own or are planning to buy an iPhone, then you MUST have some sort of protection for your long term investment in this handheld device.
The otterbox does not advertise waterproofing the phone, but it does a pretty good job. The primary effect of the otterbox defender is to protect it from short falls to the ground. The FIRST day I had my otterbox on my phone, i slipped, and the phone when flying across the pavement and into the street. After picking it up, (along wiht my ego) i found that the skin wasnt even scratched or marked up, and the phone acted like nothing had happened (much like I did…).
Also, my dogs were fighting in my living room one day and knocked over a glass of water onto my poor Iphone in this skin… To my surprise, after shaking off the water and removing the skin, the phone itself was completely dry and unharmed… I let case and skin dry and re-installed it immediately.
This product contains two basic elements (though its advertised as three, its not…)
1: Hardcover plastic shell container
2: Silicone sealing skin.
The hardcover yellow plastic shell snaps onto the phone and requires a tool of sopme sort (or good fingernails and strong hands) to remove.
The black silicone cover is very surable, but attracts lint often and ends up being a grayinsh color if you keep the phone in your pockets (which is why i got the case to begin wiht, so spare change and keys wont kill my phone.
The hardcover has two intersting elements that are noteworthy.
First: Its solution for sticky and annoying screen protectors is an off-the-surface firm, plastic film that is on the otterbox hardcover… This film allows finger tip hat to pass thru it fery effectively and keeps most lint and dust out of the phone.
Second: It has a carrying attatchment that snaps onto the phone (or that the phone snaps into, depending on your perspective). It can accept the phone from either facing (screen out or in) but it only really secures itself in with a snap if the screen is facing inward (towards the belt-clip) as you can imagine, it has a rotating belt clip with a safety hook on the inside of the clip-part so it wont slip off whatever strap or belt you hook it on.
At the end of the day, this cover/case/skin is the best, first, and last line fo defense for your iPhone, and if you plan on getting a phone, have this baby ready to go on it BEFORE you leave the dealer with phone in tow.
If i could rate this any higher, i would, but 5/5 stars will do… I honestly rate it 7/5 stars… its just that good. (Also, you should note, this retails for nearly $50 - $65 USD depending on where you go.)

First of all, let me say this is a great case for the iPhone. If you want to protect your baby from falls and boo-boos then this is the case for you. It fits well, has covers for all the exposed ports, and is cushiony enough for most falls. It’s a bit bulky but provides a solid and non-slippery feel in my hand (I have average woman sized hands).
However, unless you live in a sterile cleanroom (or are Mr. Monk) don’t get a white one. Especially if you wear makeup. I returned mine before it had a chance to get grimy but I’m sure it would’ve just been a matter of time and I didn’t want to ruin it. I only got white because I have a white iPhone and was so caught up in the excitement that I didn’t think it through.
I went back to the clear Case-Mate that my husband originally bought me with the phone, but otherwise I would get another Otterbox Defender in another color.
BTW, the suggestions on using baby powder to avoid the oil-slick problem really do work. Search youtube for videos showing how to do it. Since that was my main complaint with the Case-Mate I was happy to find that solution.
So if you’re considering the Otterbox Defender in another color I’d say Go For It, but I have to recommend avoiding the white one.

I work in a private gymnastics gym as a coach. Everything I own and bring to the gym gets thrown, dropped, beaten, spilled upon, chalked up and just generally abused by at least one of one hundred kids almost daily.
So when I got my iPhone I knew I needed something to protect it before I was looking to pay a huge repair bill.
Enter this case.
First off the shipping took longer than I expected. Most items I order from Amazon get to my house in ~2 days as there is an amazon distribution center less than three hours from my house. This took a full week. I’m not complaining but I thought it was odd.
Once I received the case I pulled it out of its packaging. I expected the case to weigh more than it did. I thought I would be adding serious weight to my phone. Something I was okay with. But it was surprisingly lightweight, I was slightly disappointed. I follow the directions and put the case on and went about my day.
It slid in and out of my pocket with ease, something I was only marginally concerned about. My number one goal for the case was protection, ease of use is secondary, so the rubber clinging to my fabric wasn’t really a concern, and as it turns out a non-issue. It just doesn’t happen.
Once I get to the gym, the kids see my phone. They say it looks like a bumble bee. Some like it, some dont. I think it looks supa dupa fly.
We have weights in the gym that we use for strength and conditioning and the kids were using them last night. I had sat my phone down on a mat and walked away to spot something. Its tough to keep things in your pocket and spot at the same time, so my phone is often left laying.
About half an hour after I left my phone I went back to get it and to my horror one of the kids had dropped a weight (45 lbs) on my phone. I’m glad they avoided dropping it on their toes, but really? My iPhone was the only good place to let it fall? On the right side of the screen there was a huge crease about two inches long and the hard plastic case’s beveled edge is dented.
I immediately took off the case to see how much my week old iPhone was damaged.
Not. A. Scratch.
In the future I’m probably not going to leave my phone by the weights but knowing this happened gives me peace of mind.
I always read the bad reviews first so I’ll try to cover some of the things negative I read.
Number 1. The oily screen issue. Not on mine. Not even a little. IDK if they changed their product or what but there’s no residue between the plastic protector and the screen.
Number 2. The holster. My first issue with people complaining about it falling off of their belt is this; what kind of pretensions loser are you that you can’t slide it in your pocket or purse? Personally I will never, never use the clip but for those that will (I’m currently rolling my eyes) if you turn the phone around so that the screen is facing your body it will fit quite snuggly. I snapped mine in and I was surprised at how much force I had to use to get it off the holster. It makes more sense to have the screen face you, as it adds a layer of protection against bumping into things.
Number 3. “It’s chunky” I saw this a few times and it does add a bit of girth but I like it. I’m a large man and the phone fits my hand better now than it did without the case. I feel like I’m grabbing something, rather than feeling like I was reaching for something dainty like I did with the phone. It might not be your cup of tea but I like the feel. I mean I dont feel like I’m picking up a paperback novel but it is thicker.
Number 4. “It makes the screen less responsive” Less responsive than it already was? Nope. I simply have not noticed it, at all.
Number 5. “It hurts my fingers” One reviewer said that pressing the button and scraping the edges with their fingers made them sore. Seriously? If this product hurts your fingers you should probably at some point in the next month do some manual labor. I mean, you know, just to see what its like. That way you’ll kind of know what your asking “the help” to do. Maybe you could get your butler to press the button for you, I dont know.
So thats my review of this case. I’m a big fan so far. It is heavy duty enough for my needs, it looks good, it feels good. $30 was totally worth it for the protection given.
